Towed Array Technology: Development for a Better Sonar System Performance
نویسندگان
چکیده
In present missions of submarines, the detection of hostile targets is one of the main objectives. To achieve these objectives modern submarines are well equipped with sonar sensors and signal processing units for all acoustical frequency ranges. The detection and analysis of silent or distant targets is the main task of towed array systems. Towed arrays have their advantages in the low frequency range, where acoustic signals are propagating with low attenuation together with a significant reduction of platform noise. The qualities, developmentand production process of ATLAS towed arrays is the topic of the paper.

متن کاملSeabed Characterization by Inversion of Acoustic Data from a Towed Array
The goal of geoacoustic inversion is to estimate environmental parameters from measured acoustic fields from e.g. a towed array. Though the inversion results have some uncertainty, inversion is an efficient technique to estimate environment parameters. Based on the a posteriori probability density of environmental parameters obtained from inversion, we perform statistical estimation of transmis...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison Between Vertical and Horizontal Arrays for Geoacoustic Inversion
Most of the research on model-based geoacoustic inversion techniques has concentrated on data collected using moored vertical receiver arrays. However, there are many advantages to considering geoacoustic inversion using a towed horizontal array. Towed arrays are easily deployed from a moving platform; this mobility makes them well suited for surveying large areas for sea-bed properties. Furthe...
متن کاملBeamspace Adaptive Beamforming for Hydrodynamic Towed Array Self-Noise Cancellation
.A beamspace adaptive beamformer implementation for the rejection of cable strum self-noise on passive sonar towed arrays is presented. The approach focuses on the implementation of a white noise gain constraint based on the scaled projection technique due to Cox et al. [IEEE Trans. on ASSP, Vol. 35 (10), Oct. 1987]. The objective is to balance the aggressive adaptation necessary for nulling th...
